Aurkitu Garnacha Blanca, Baja Montaña
NEW - Current vintage 2021
Viticulture
The dusty, sheep strewn, back roads of Baja Montaña in Eastern Navarra have long led to the magnificent old vine Garnacha Tinto vineyards which we now treasure but now, scattered amongst them, lie some new emerging gems. Garnacha Blanca may be more recently planted but it immediately looks so much at home. The rugged climate and poor soils ensure that yields are kept to a minimum while the cool nights and protracted season ensure precise, complex, refreshing flavours that translate through to delicious, textural wines.
Winemaking
In the cool of the higher altitude vineyards, Garnacha Blanca thrives – producing fruit capable of producing deliciously aromatic, textural whites. For Aurkitu, we night harvest Garnacha Blanca before it is cool fermented to retain the refreshing, energetic fruit before extended time on lees to build texture and a nicely rounded mouthfeel. The further addition of a little old vine, barrel aged Viura just adds the pithy palate, length and finesse.
Tasting
Wonderfull citrus and white flower aromatics lead to a textured wine with plenty of weight. The zippy acidity brings the perfect balance to the round, weighty mouthfeel.
