Established in the Rioja Oriental sub-zone of Rioja, deAlto is an unconventional producer of brilliant wines that aim to maximise the fruit potential of this great region. Responding to the need for a more sustainable future, we harness the best vineyards to produce

PURE RIOJA

"I vividly remember the smell of rich, leathery tobacco as I took my first steps off the plane and into the real Spain of the 1990s. From that moment on, I slowly but surely fell in love with the country and its wines. That love for the country, sparked by the warmth and generous hospitality of my hosts, was to become a defining part of my life in wine"  Giles Cooke MW

MÁS VINOS
Using that same spirit of adventure, experimentation, creativity and commitment to sustainable wine production deAlto embraces a family of wines from across the country.
Drawing on the revered, in-depth knowledge of Paul Shinnie and the technical skills of Marta Juega Rivera, the wines of Aurkitu, Campo Flores and Te Quiero offer a tantalising taste of contemporary Spain

Picture a region of breathtaking beauty and peacefulness, not unlike the majestic beauty of Rioja Alavesa, where the old bush vine vineyards gently nudge themselves up into the foothills of the Sierra Cantabria. Add in a speckled, patchwork of spartan vineyards and dusty roads, where the only traffic jams are those created by sheep crossing the road, and you have the Baja Montaña region in Navarra.

Te Quiero

Te Quiero literally means " I Love you" in Spanish and these field blends capture all that we love about Southern Spain. The vast, open expanses of vineyards are home to an array of varieties, all of which are organically farmed. Together they form a wonderful field blend of flavours.

Campo Flores

Organic farming is at the heart of Campo Flores and the wines reflect the sunny simplicity of southern spain. A juicy, succulent red and a crisp, tangy white comprise a range that proves that taste need not cost the earth

Aurkitu

Picture a region of breathtaking beauty and peacefulness. Add a speckled, patchwork of spartan vineyards and dusty roads, where the only traffic jams are those created by sheep crossing the road, and you have the Baja Montaña region in Navarra, home to Aurkitu.

"I was waiting for a producer  as he went to borrow a filter from a neighbour. After 20 minutes or so waiting in the car,  I went to find my friend only to burst into a large room filled with a group of growers enjoying chuletillas, morcilla, salsichas all grilled on an open fire, washed down with their own bottles. It was this demonstration of the ability to revel in your own home produced food and wine, turning your back on the world’s demands for a while, that I enjoyed. A sort of reckless hedonism,  as a direct contrast to some of the pioneering work these growers were accomplishing."  Paul Shinnie
